Drama Kicks Off

The Eastern Hancock High School Drama Club is off to a late, but great start."I can tell already that the cast is really into/good at their characters." says Olivia Smith.
Tryouts were held September 8th and 9th. Approximately twenty-five people tried out, and of the students who tried out, twenty-one of them made the cut to be a part of the cast for the fall play Pillow Talk  written by Russell Rouse and Clarence Greene, with the stage adaption written by Christopher Sergel.
When casting rolls for a play, Mike Hewitt looks for three basic things: "What they can handle, seniority, [and] how long they have been active in drama."
With the lead roll of Jan Morrow, Ashley Carlton, senior, was very surprised to receive the part.
"I'm nervous about learning my lines," Carlton confesses. "It's really exciting, but it's also stressful."
Michael Adams, who received the lead roll of Brad Allen, is feeling pretty good with his part and was not too surprised to obtain the lead male roll.
"Not to sound full of myself or anything," he said laughing, "but there aren't really any guys involved and I've been in drama for over 2 years. I get to play the part of a player, who doesn't do anything but hit on women and play piano all day." Adams said.
Adams did not seem worried on memorizing his lines for the play, "It's just like a song, you memorize the words."
With Pillow Talk well underway, the drama club seems to have a good running start but Hewitt still wishes for a little more, "[I want to] find a way to get more people involved, and get us the same amount of  respect that the sports here at school have."
